Picture Yourself @ University of Florida

Featuring: Tiana Alderson (Lighting Design MFA Student)

What is campus life like at University of Florida? What are your favorite recreational things to do?

My answer here is kinda bland. I honestly go to the theatre everyday, usually for 12 + hours. So the most I see of campus is our building and the main place to get food. As for favorite recreational things, I discovered a ranch for retired horses nearby and you can go feed them carrots on Saturdays, so if I’m not super busy I head out there. We also have Lake Wauberg which the university owns that has a variety of outdoor activities. So every once and a while some of us will head there to get away.

What is your favorite production you have worked on so far?

House of Atreus because it required a lot of collaboration between myself and the director and other designers. We really had to think outside the box and create a cohesive presentation.

What made you want to attend Florida’s MFA for lighting?

What attracted me to the program at UF is it’s diversity. In addition to theatrical lighting we also study museum and architectural lighting. I liked that I would have a broad range of job skills coming out of my masters at UF.
