URTA Auditions & Interviews move online for 2021

“Live-Virtual” URTAs will take place in January 2021

URTA is excited to announce that the annual URTA Auditions & Interviews will be going online in 2021 for a “live-virtual” URTAs.

The event will take place from January 9-31, including 10 days of acting auditions, 4 days of design & technology interviews, and 3 days of interviews in arts leadership, directing, and stage management. Events will take place live, but there will be non-live options for student candidates who are unable to take part in a live process.

As ever, students will have the opportunity to share their work with all schools taking part in the auditions and interviews, without the need to coordinate multiple applications, fees, and appointments. Nearly all of URTA’s 46 member universities have already confirmed their participation, and many non-member schools are expected to take part in the Satellite Auditions, which will also continue in the live online format.

“We’re so happy that we’ll be able to maintain the live nature of our Auditions & Interviews; a key component of the whole process. And we’re looking forward to opening up the opportunity to more student candidates than ever before,” said URTA executive director, Tony Hagopian.

For more than 50 years, the URTA recruiting process has represented the most accessible way for theatre students from across the country to find the training they need to enter the professional theatre and entertainment fields. 2021’s live-virtual event will continue to drive that mission.

The University Resident Theatre Association was founded in 1969 with the mission of supporting excellence in theatre training. Fifty years later, URTA is still setting the stage for professional training, emerging theatre artists, and professional advancement.
