Picture Yourself @ University of California- Irvine

Featuring: Aaron Arroyo (Acting MFA Student)

Why did you choose UC Irvine’s MFA program?

What drew me to this MFA program originally were its illustrious founders, faculty, and alumni. What was even better about this program is that UCI and its faculty is devoted to training professional actors: actors who are insightful, creative, and driven to produce great work. With all its degrees of success, they still want you to be who you are not a product or a machine. It’s all about the process here. That is what I love about this program.

What is your favorite class at Irvine? Favorite production you’ve been a part of?

I’m very fortunate to have been a part of some classes that I did not have the chance to experience in undergrad. I thoroughly enjoy my voice class. Those who have worked with Catherine Fitzmaurice Technique before know that at some point in the year you’re going to want to give your body what it deserves. Tremors. My favorite production I worked on was An Enemy of the People in Spring of 2016. I loved being able to work with an Ibsen text and rehearse side by side with my colleagues.

What do you like to do in your leisure time in Irvine?

When not teaching, in training, or in rehearsal, you can find me hanging out with my wife and dog, at Huntington Beach, or just sleeping.

After a long day of training, it’s always nice to hang out in Irvine’s own “central park” called, Aldrich Park.
