Michael Chekhov Technique Workshop: An introduction to the methods of the Michael Chekhov Technique and its uses in the classroom.  Michael Chekhov Technique stresses intuition and imagination as major sources of theatrical creativity. Teachers can provide student directors and actors a unique approach to the play and the character. The workshop is designed as an introduction to some of the key Chekhov concepts and exercises utilized in contemporary theatre training and rehearsal practices.

Though not required, it is recommended to purchase and read in advance: To The Actor: On the Technique of Acting by Michael Chekhov, Revised and expanded edition, foreword by Simon Callow. Routledge, 2002 .

Instructor: Andrei Malaev-Babel holds an MFA from the Vakhtangov Theater Institute in Moscow, Russia.  In 1985 Mr. Malaev-Babel established one of the first Michael Chekhov Technique workshops in Russia since Chekhov’s exile in 1928.  Since 1998, Mr. Malaev-Babel has served on the faculty and board of the Michael Chekhov Association in New York City.  At the Stanislavsky Theater Studio in Washington, D.C., he co-developed The Art of Acting, an extensive acting training program based on the Chekhov Technique.  Mr. Malaev-Babel has conducted lectures and workshops at The Smithsonian Institution, Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars, Michael Checkov Centre London, and the Young Vic Theatre Company.

Voice and Movement Technique Workshop:  A voice and movement workshop that explores ways of freeing body, voice and breath simultaneously, allowing actors immediate access to their emotions and increasing expressivity in performance. The goal is to train teachers to help their students to become open, free and physically capable of producing sound and movement of a theatrical nature.

Instructors: Margaret Eginton is Head of Movement and Dance at the FSU/Asolo Conservatory, a Master Teacher for the Atlantic Theater in New York City, and the former Head of Movement for the M.X.A.T./A.R.T. Institute for Advanced Theater Training at Harvard University. She was the Resident Movement Coach for the American Repertory Theatre, and created the Movement for Actors Program at NYU's Tisch School for the Arts. Ms. Eginton has taught her own method, Eginton Alignment, at Yale University, Harvard College, the Moscow Art Theater School, the International Institute for Performing Arts/Paris, and at theaters and other universities in France and Italy.

Patricia Delorey is Head of Voice, Speech & Dialects at the FSU/Asolo Conservatory, is the Resident Voice Coach for the Asolo Repertory Theatre, and is a Certified Associate Fitzmaurice Voicework Teacher.  Her M.F.A. in Voice & Speech is from the A.R.T. Institute at Harvard University. She has taught voice at, among other institutions, the Moscow Art Theater School in Russia, the University of Bologna at Forli in Italy, Texas State University, and over the course of many summers, at Stratford-Upon-Avon in England.

The Audition Workshop
This workshop will focus on audition techniques and explore the methods by which an actor can present him/herself in the best possible light for any occasion. The workshop is structured to help teachers provide actors with the tools for developing a strong audition piece that demonstrates mastery of the art form and the confidence needed to get the job.  It is recommended that participants bring any audition piece they wish to work on, or that may be of use in their own classroom work.

Instructor: Barbara Redmond enjoys a career divided among her roles as actress, director, playwright and teacher.  She has acted and directed extensively in regional theatre, including a ten-season tenure as a member of the Asolo Repertory Theatre. She played Gladys on NBC's Search for Tomorrow and has acted as judge for the Emmy Awards and as In-House Reviewer for ABC Daytime Programming. With her husband, she is co-author of ten plays, which have been produced at venues such as the Williamstown Theatre Festival, Illinois Shakespeare Festival, and the Cleveland Playhouse. Ms. Redmond serves as Head of Acting at the FSU/Asolo Conservatory, which she joined in 1998 after three years as director of the professional Actor Training Program at Ohio University.
