Inaugural URTA Grants Awarded

It is with great pleasure that we announce the recipient of the 2016-17 URTA Grant.

Our inaugural grant was awarded to support the hiring of a United Scenic Artists design assistant. The grant has been awarded to Viriginia’s Barter Theatre.

A founding member of LORT, the voice for Appalachia art, and one of the few theaters still maintaining a resident Equity acting company, The Barter is an avid community supporter and a strong collaborator with the Emory & Henry College Theatre. The Barter Theatre’s mission began with theatergoers trading their produce for admission, marking the theatre’s ongoing efforts to make theatre accessible and affordable. The Barter was named the state theatre for Virginia in 1946.

Under the supervision of their resident Sound Designer & Engineer Tony Angelini, the URTA Grant will fund a fresh, up-and-coming assistant sound designer for a production in their coming season.

URTA thanks all who submitted proposals for our inaugural grant. Due to the overwhelming number of applicants and clear need for funding of such an important and vital stage in the career of the professional designer, URTA is also happy to announce we will be offering two awards for 2017-18 season.
