URTA on the Map- Louisiana State University

Who: Nick Erickson, Associate Head of MFA Acting
Where: Louisiana State University
City: Baton Rouge, LA

What advice would you give to someone who is in the process of applying to MFA programs?

Do your research. Find the right programs for your needs and career goals and focus on them. Also, remember that you are interviewing them as much as they are interviewing you. You want to feel very at ease and comfortable with your core faculty.

Where on campus do you like to work?

I love to work in the Movement Studio in the recently renovated Music & Dramatic Arts Building on the beautiful campus of Louisiana State University. I never tire of the joy of seeing students discover what they can do.

What is your favorite time of year and what is your least favorite time of year in Baton Rouge?

My favorite time of year is just after the winter cold snap breaks. There are weeks of temperate days filled with flowering trees. My least favorite time of year is in the middle of the summer. Incredibly hot and humid!

What are your favorite things to do off-campus in your free time?

The restaurants in Louisiana are stellar. Baton Rouge has seen an influx of especially in the post-Katrina years. Love our bookstores and libraries. Parks and Zoos are great as well. One of the most beautiful parts of campus are the university lakes where one can kayak.

Other fun activities in Baton Rouge:

  • Shaw Center for the Arts
  • Louisiana Art and Science Museum
