URTA Proud to be a Sponsor of KCACTF Allied Design & Technology Award

At next week’s USITT Annual Conference in Milwaukee, a student designer will be selected from among eight regional finalists to receive a full scholarship to attend Stagecraft Institute Las Vegas’ (SILV) eight-week summer session in cutting edge live entertainment technology.

For the past three years, the Kennedy Center American College Theater Festival (KCACTF) has presented the Allied Design & Technology Award to a student designer at each of its eight regional festivals. The regional winners enjoy an expenses paid trip to attend the USITT Annual Conference where they present their work at the Design Expo for the duration of the conference. While there, they have the opportunity to attend workshops, network, interview for internships, look into graduate school opportunities, and much more.

This year’s regional winners are: Rachael Perry, Eastern Connecticut State University (Region I); Krista Intranuovo, Adelphi University (Region II); Dan Thelen, Hillsdale College (Region III); Brittney Harrell, University of South Alabama (Region IV); Mathew Foster, Normandale Community College (Region V); Ethan Hartman, University of Oklahoma (Region VI); Elizabeth Carlson, Eastern Washington University (Region VII); and Glenn Starr, Mesa Community College (Region VIII).

The award is open to students who have completed major design or technology projects in areas including (but not limited to) makeup, projection, properties, millinery, masks, tech, wigs, scenic art, draping & tailoring, technical direction, puppets, special effects, costume craft, audio engineering, etc.

The students’ work will be adjudicated by a panel of experts and one student is selected to receive the scholarship to attend eight weeks of SILV master classes during the summer.

The University Resident Theatre Association (URTA) is proud to once again be a sponsor for the Award.

Other sponsors include the U.S. Institute for Theatre Technology (USITT), Stage Craft Institute of Las Vegas, and Focal Press.

The USITT Conference runs from March 20-23rd in Milwaukee.
